Fav Baby Products - First Year

Updated: Mar 29, 2021

These are the top items in my opinion that you want on your registry and have ready for the first year! I like to keep my baby products as natural as possible while still being cute and functional. So those are the types of items you will find on this list. When I say natural, I'm mostly concerned with it not having any chemicals to harm the baby, but also slightly eco-friendly when possible too. For example, I avoid plastic toys when possible because they are lower quality, won't last as long, and often end up in a landfill. I like that higher quality wood toys for example, can handle more wear-and-tear, and can be passed down to younger siblings, cousins, or younger generations down the road. There are a ton of other products that you will need, not need, and end up with anyway. But these are the stand out products that helped us get through the first year:

BREASTFEEDING/PUMPING/BOTTLES/FORMULA: Such a detailed topic, that really depends on your baby. I would talk to your doctor about the best formula for your baby if you choose to go that route.

  • boppy: Bella lived in her boppy the first few months! It has so many different functions. She mostly liked to just lounge in it, and it was helpful to prop her up in while feeding her a bottle. It is also great for supporting the baby while you are breastfeeding. Once your baby is trying to sit up, you place it behind them to land on when they fall backward. Make sure to get a few extra boppy covers for when the baby spits up on it.

  • Neutral bamboo bottle brush set (so cute on your counter! All the bottle accessories get real cluttery on your counter, and keeping things organized and neutral helps it not feel overwhelming)

  • Dr. Brown's Bottle Set

  • Bottle Drying Rack

BABY SLEEP

We eventually got this baby sleep routine thing down to a t. During the first few months, if there's one thing that going to drive you nuts, its getting the baby to fall asleep and stay asleep. So every little step in the sleep process is crucial! These are the products that help:

  • halo swaddle: This thing is a *life saver*!!! It wraps the baby up and holds her tight and snug to help them sleep. I like this velcro halo swaddle specifically, better than many other brands and styles that we tried. Trust me on this and get this freakin swaddle!!!

  • fan noise machine: We keep this on all night. Without it, she would wake easily. It helps keep her asleep. Just trust me on this one too!

  • Mommy's Bliss Gripe Water Night Time Double Pack: This helps with gas, fussiness, colic, and hiccups. It also helps calm to sleep. It has organic and natural ingredients including calming chamomile, organic ginger, fennel, lemon balm, and passion flower. It helped for a few week period when she was really having trouble sleeping and was having stomach issues from trying to find the right formula.

  • Owlet: This is a game changer if you have any new mom/postpartum anxiety. For Bella's first 79 days, she was hooked up to so many monitors that would beep at the slightest concern. Without the Owlet hooked up to her at home, I think I would have just stayed up and stared at her all night to make sure she was breathing. It comes in blue or pink.

BABY EATS

BABY STYLE

BABY BATH/HYGEINE

  • burt's bees bath - calming scent. For help getting babies sleepy if they are going through a tough non-sleeping phase

  • burts bees bath - original/honey scent. We tried at least five different types of the most natural-ish baby soaps, and this one is the winner! It smells soooo good like honey :)

  • Blooming Bath Lotus - I like this instead of the baby bath tubs that go in the bath. Either put this in the sink, or put it inside a baby bath tub. It keeps the baby snug and cozy and is more comfortable on their neck when they are laying back.

ROOM/FURNITURE

  • Graco DuetSoothe Baby Swing and Rocker: This is another one of those *lifesaver* products!!! Bella loved just hanging out in her swing, listening to the lullabies it plays, staring up at the little hanging toys. The best part about this particular swing is that the entire seat part comes off and can sit on the ground as a little lounger chair that bounces and vibrates! She basically just lived in this little seat thing for a while. She loved it and it was SO handy. Get this swing. I promise you won't regret it.

  • pack n play: There are a lot of great brands, but we went with an affordable option this Graco one here. It is great to let her play in here knowing she is safe from the dogs!
